The Worlds Greatest Fishing Treasure
Without reservation, I can say we have here in the United States and the great state of Florida the greatest fishing treasure of the world - The Coastal Everglades of the Everglades National Park. This estuary wonderland speaks to my soul in so many ways. Not only the fishing but the all the life that exists here. I could write a book on all that lives and thrives this great mangrove maze in terms of birds, fish, reptiles and marine mammals but I won’t in this blog. What I will do is list the species I regularly target here and I challenge anyone anywhere in the world to come up with a longer list of species in an such a relatively small area.
Seatrout - spotted, sugar
Grouper - gag, black and goliath
Sharks - bull, black tip, bonnethead, tiger
That’s over 20-game species and not counting any trash fish that are regularly caught but never targeted like sailcats, hardhead catfish, lizard fish, houndfish and pufferfish.
While the area could be a boaters nightmare who is unfamiliar with the waterscape and where the oyster bars, sand bars, flats and navigable channels are it is a dream for me in that every turn is something or someplace I’ve never seen or explored.
